Teneriffe is globally significant as Australia's largest collection of intact woolstore buildings, most built between 1895 and 1920 for Brisbane's pastoral wool trade. These enormous industrial brick warehouses — with their distinctive timber floors, exposed brick, and heavy timber roof trusses — have been converted to luxury apartments in a heritage precinct unique in Australia. The few remaining residential streets feature Queenslander homes and interwar bungalows, with the woolstore precinct dominating the suburb's identity.

The Teneriffe Woolstores Precinct is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register and is one of the largest industrial heritage conservation areas in Australia. The woolstores are individually significant, and Brisbane City Council's heritage register lists many of them as places of local, state, or national significance. New development within the precinct must comply with the Teneriffe Heritage Area guidelines and receive Council heritage approval.
